Ordo Dinophysiales

Order Dinophysiales Lindemann, 1928

Laterally flattened cells with a dinokont flagellar orientation and a distinct premedian cingulum. Each theca is basically divided into two lateral halves (right and left) and separated by a jagged sagittal suture. Cingulum and sulcus often with wide lists supported by ribs. A total of 18 or 19 thecal plates in apical, epithecal, cingular, sulcul and hypothecal series.
